This site has been expanded to include any fire observation stations where it can be documented that they were established for the prime purpose of forest fire detection. These include towers operated by the Department of Environmental Conservation's Bureau of Forest Fire Control and its predecessors, stations owned and operated by private landowners and stations erected and operated by State Parks, which from 1927 to 1970 was a Division within the old Conservation Department. This change brings the total number to 139. To read about a specific fire observation station, you must know the region and county in which it's located. Place your cursor on a region of the State to see what counties are located within it. Click to enter. When viewing a particular picture, place your cursor within its border to view additional information and photo credits. Please report erroneous or updated information to the webmaster. ![]() |
